About ReStart Academy
ReStart Academy is an alternative education program under the auspices of New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) District 79 that provides educational services for students ages 13 through adult in transitional settings. ReStart Academy has two distinct programs:
Middle School Program
Our middle school program provides small and supportive academic settings for overage seventh and eighth graders. We currently have eight middle school locations throughout NYC. Each ReStart Academy middle school site is housed in an NYCPS high school, with which we collaborate to provide a full range of academic and extracurricular opportunities for our students.
Partnership Program
Our high school and high school equivalency sites are each a collaboration with a partner agency or community-based organization where ReStart Academy provides academic services onsite at the partner facility. These sites are located throughout NYC and upstate New York, and they include residential and day treatment sites. This model enables students to stay on track academically while receiving supportive services from our partners.
Our Vision
Every ReStart Academy student will have the capacity to navigate their future education and personal experiences to achieve success in their individual life goals.
Our Mission
ReStart Academy, in collaboration with agency and community partners, provides a safe and supportive school environment for every student. Our comprehensive and individualized academic program supports students in the areas of academic, behavioral and social/emotional learning, and allows students to transition successfully to their next life experience.
Curriculum
The academic program at each ReStart Academy site varies depending upon the student population it serves. ReStart Academy accommodates students on middle school, high school, and high school equivalency tracks. The curriculum for all levels is Next Generation Standards-aligned and includes traditional and blended learning instruction. All ReStart Academy students receive comprehensive academics, college and career counseling, and transition planning.
