At Eagle Academy, students learned about artists of African descent featured in the Studio Museum of Harlem’s permanent collection in workshops coordinated by Guidance Counselors Joyce Clement and Iris Gruber. Over the course of twelve weeks, they explored various artistic techniques, creating projects that incorporated imagery and lettering to design posters, postcards, stamps, and more. The workshops culminated in a unique screen-printing experience, where students developed their own messages and images to be printed onto t-shirts. The final creations were a testament to their dedication and growth, with one student sharing, “I’m proud of my finished shirt because I kept working and adding to it.”
