Eagle Academy students visited Earth Matter on Governors Island for a hands-on lesson in environmental stewardship. The team rolled up their sleeves to weed and plant native vegetation in a specialized bioswale designed to capture compost runoff, preventing excess nutrients from causing harmful algae blooms in surrounding waters. By prepping the soil for the upcoming growing season, students got a firsthand look at how healthy compost protects our local waterways.
